Notice: Toomuchortoolittlefluidcandamageyour
transmission. Toomuchcanmeanthatsomeofthe
fluidcouldcomeoutandfallonhotenginepartsor
exhaustsystemparts,starting afire.Toolittlefluid
couldcausethetransmission tooverheat. Besure
togetanaccurate readingifyoucheckyour
transmission fluid.
Itisusuallynotnecessary tocheckthetransmission
fluidlevel.Theonlyreasonforfluidlossisa
transmission leakoroverheating thetransmission.
Ifyoususpectasmallleak,thenusethefollowing
checking procedures tocheckthefluidlevel.However,
ifthereisalargeleak,thenitmaybenecessary tohave
thevehicletowedtoadealer/retailer servicedepartment
andhaveitrepaired beforedrivingthevehiclefurther.
Beforechecking thefluidlevel,preparethevehicleas
follows:

Starttheengineandparkthevehicleonalevel
surface. Keeptheenginerunning.
Notice: Useoftheincorrect automatic transmission
fluidmaydamagethevehicle, andthedamagesmay
notbecoveredbythevehicle's warranty.Always
usetheautomatic transmission fluidlistedin
2.
Applytheparkingbrakeandplacetheshift
leverinP(Park).
Recommended FluidsandLubricants onpage8‑10.
3. Withyourfootonthebrakepedal,movetheshift
leverthrougheachgearrange,pausingforabout
threesecondsineachrange.Then,movetheshift
leverbacktoP(Park).
Changethefluidandfilterattheintervals listedinthe
Maintenance Schedule. SeeScheduled Maintenance
on page 8‑3.Besuretousethetransmission fluid
listedinRecommended FluidsandLubricants on
page 8‑10.
