This system perform s two functions. With the engine
running and the multi-function control lever in the A
(Auto) position, the head lights will turn on and off based
on the surrou nd ing light levels.
NOTE: When you r head lights come on during the
daytim e, the instru ment panel lights will autom atically
dim to the lower nighttim e intensity. Refer to “Instru -
ment Panel and Interior Lights” below for setting the
instru ment panel lights to full daytim e intensity.
Head ligh ts On Autom atically With Wip ers
If you r vehicle is equ ipped with Autom atic Head lights it
also has this custom er program mable featu re. When you r
head lights are in the autom atic mode, and the engine is
running, they will autom atically turn on when the wiper
system is on.

SmartBeams — If Equipped
The SmartBeam system provid es increased forw ard light-
ing at night by autom ating high beam control throu gh
the use of a digital camera mounted on the insid e
rearview mirror. This camera detects vehicle specific light
and autom atically switches from high beam s to low
beam s until the approaching vehicle is out of view.
If you r vehicle is equ ipped with a “Rain Sensitive Wiper
System ,” and it is activated , the head lights will autom ati-
cally turn on after the wipers complete five wipe cycles
within approxim ately 1 minu te, and they will turn off
approxim ately four minu tes after the wipers completely
stop . Refer to “Wind shield Wipers and Washers” in this
section for more inform ation.
NOTE: If the wind shield or SmartBeam mirror is re-
placed , the SmartBeam mirror must be re-aim ed to
ensu re prop er perform ance. See you r local authorized
dealer.
