Drive Belts — Check Condition and Tension
Belt tension is controlled by means of an autom atic
tensioner. No belt tension adjustm ents are requ ired .
However, belt and belt tensioner cond ition shou ld be
insp ected at the specified intervals, and rep laced if re-
quired . See you r authorized dealer for service.
Spark Plugs
Spark plugs must fire prop erly to assu re engine perfor-
mance and emission control. New spark plugs shou ld be
installed at the specified mileage. The entire set shou ld be
rep laced if there is any malfunction due to a faulty spark
plug. Refer to “Fluids, Lubricants, and Genu ine Parts” in
this section for spark plug inform ation.
At the mileage ind icated in the maintenance sched ule, all
belts and tensioner shou ld be checked for cond ition.
Improp er belt tension can cause belt slippage and failu re.
Spark Plug Wires
The spark plug wires shou ld be kep t clean and prop erly
connected . Terminals shou ld be fully seated . Cracked ,
damaged , or faulty wires shou ld be rep laced .
Belts shou ld be insp ected for evid ence of cuts, cracks,
glazing, or frayed cord s and rep laced if there is ind ication
of damage which could resu lt in belt failu re. Low gen-
erator belt tension can cause battery failu re.
Engine Air Cleaner Filter
Refer to the Maintenance Sched ule for recom mend ed
Engine Air Cleaner Filter change intervals.
Also, check belt rou ting to make sure there is no inter-
ference betw een the belts and other engine components.
