STARTING AND OPERATING

Do not “rid e” the brakes by resting you r foot on the
pedal. This could overheat the brakes and resu lt in
unp red ictable braking action, longer stop ping dis-
tances, or brake damage.

After going throu gh deep water or a car wash, brakes
may becom e wet, resu lting in decreased perform ance
and unp red ictable braking action. Dry the brakes by
gentle, interm ittent pedal action while driving at very
slow speed s.

When descend ing mountains or hills, rep eated brak-
ing can cause brake fade with loss of braking control.
Avoid rep eated heavy braking by downshifting the
transm ission or locking out overd rive whenever pos-
sible.
POWER STEERING

Engines may idle at higher speed s during warm -up,
which could cause rear wheels to spin and resu lt in
loss of vehicle control. Be especially carefu l while
driving on slippery road s, in close quarter maneu ver-
ing, parking, or stop ping.
The stand ard power steering system will give you good
vehicle resp onse and increased ease of maneu verability
in tight spaces. The system will provid e mechanical
steering capability if power assist is lost.
If for som e reason the power assist is interru pted , it will
still be possible to steer you r vehicle. Und er these cond i-
tions, you will observe a substantial increase in steering
effort, especially at very low vehicle speed s and during
parking maneu vers.
Do not drive too fast for road cond itions, especially
when road s are wet or slushy. A wedge of water can
