MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE
NOTE: Insp ection of brake hoses shou ld be perform ed
whenever the brake system is serviced and every engine
oil change. Insp ect hyd rau lic brake hoses for surface
cracking, scuffing, or worn spots. If there is any evid ence
of cracking, scuffing, or worn spots, the hose shou ld be
rep laced immediately! Eventu al deterioration of the hose
can take place resu lting in a possibility of a burst failu re.
Brak e Master Cylin der — Brak e Fluid Level Check
The fluid level of the master cylind er shou ld be checked
when perform ing und er the hood service, or immedi-
ately if the brake system warning lamp ind icates system
failu re.
The brake master cylind er has a translu cent plastic
reservoir. On the outboard side of the reservoir, there is a
“MAX” dot and an “MIN ” dot. The fluid level must be
kep t within these two dots. Do not add fluid above the
MAX mark, becau se leakage may occur at the cap.
WARN ING!
Worn brak e hoses can burst and cause brak e failu re.
You could have an accid ent. If you see any sign s of
crack ing, scuffin g, or worn spots, have the brak e
hoses rep laced immediately.
With disc brakes the fluid level can be expected to fall as
the brake linings wear. However, an unexp ected drop in
fluid level may be caused by a leak and a system check
shou ld be cond ucted .
Refer to Fluids, Lubricants and Genu ine Parts for the
correct fluid typ e.
