Transmission Limp Home Mode
If the problem is no longer detected , the transm ission will
retu rn to norm al operation. If the problem persists, P
(Park), R (Reverse), and N (Neutral) will continu e to
operate. Only 2nd gear (3.7L engine) or 3rd gear (4.7L
and 5.7L engines) will be available in the D (Drive)
position. Have the transm ission checked at you r autho-
rized dealer as soon as possible.
Transm ission function is monitored for abnorm al cond i-
tions. If a cond ition is detected that could resu lt in
transm ission damage, the transm ission limp hom e mode
will be engaged . In this mode, the transm ission will
rem ain in the current gear (3.7L engine) or in direct gear
(4.7L
stop .
and 5.7L engines) until the vehicle is brou ght to a
Torque Con verter Clu tch
To reset the transm ission, use the follow ing proced ure:
A featu re, designed to improve fuel econom y, has been 5
inclu ded in the autom atic transm ission on you r vehicle.
A clutch within the torqu e converter engages autom ati-
cally at a calibrated speed at light throttle. It engages at
higher speed s und er heavier acceleration. This may re-
sult in a slightly different feeling or resp onse during
norm al operation in high gear. When the vehicle speed
drop s below a calibrated speed , or during acceleration,
the clutch autom atically and smoothly disengages. The
featu re is operational in Overd rive and in Drive.

Stop the vehicle.
Move the shift lever to the P (Park) position.
Turn off the engine, be sure to turn the key to the
LOCK position.

Wait approxim ately 10 second s, then restart the en-
gine.
5.
Move the shift lever to the desired gear range.
