Never use P (Park ) position as a substitu te for the
park ing brak e. Alw ays apply park ing brak e fully
when park ed to guard again st veh icle movem ent and
possib le injury or damage.
Gear Ranges
NOTE: After selecting any gear range, wait a moment to
allow the selected gear to engage before accelerating.
This is especially important when the engine is cold. If
there is a need to restart the engine be sure to cycle the
key to the LOCK position before restarting. Transm ission
gear engagem ent may be delayed after restarting the
engine if the key is not cycled to the LOCK position first.
WARN ING!
It is dangerou s to shift the selector lever out of P
(Park ) or N (Neutral) if the engin e speed is high er
than idle speed . If you r foot is not firm ly on the
brak e pedal, the veh icle could accelerate quickly
forw ard or in reverse. You could lose control of the
veh icle and hit som eon e or som eth ing. Only shift
into gear when the engin e is idlin g norm ally and
when you r righ t foot is firm ly on the brak e pedal.
P (Park )
This gear position supplements the parking brake by
locking the transm ission. The engine can be started in
this range. Never use P (Park) while the vehicle is in
motion. Apply the parking brake when leaving the
vehicle in this range. Alw ays apply parking brake first,
then place the selector in P (Park) position.
