Maintenance After Off-Road Driving

After extend ed operation in mud, sand or water, or
similar dirty cond itions, have you r brake discs, brake
linings, and axle joints insp ected and cleaned as soon as
possible. This will prevent any abrasive material from
causing excessive wear or unp red ictable braking action.
Be aware that if the flu id tem peratu re is below 50°F
it may not register on the dipstick . Do not add
flu id until the tem peratu re is elevated enough to
prod uce an accurate read ing.

After driving off-road , completely insp ect the und erbod y
of you r vehicle. Check tires, bod y stru cture, steering,
suspension and exhau st system for damage. Check
thread ed fasteners for looseness, particu larly on the
chassis, drivetrain components, steering and suspension.
Retighten, if requ ired , to torqu e valu es specified in the
Service Manu al. Also check for accumulations of vegeta-
tion or bru sh that could becom e a fire hazard , or conceal
damage to fuel lines, brake hoses, axle pinion seals, and
prop eller shafts.

Check for leaks. Release parking brake.
To prevent dirt and water from entering the transm ission
after checking or rep lenishing fluid, make certain that the
dipstick cap is prop erly reseated . It is norm al for the
dipstick cap to spring back slightly from its fully seated
position, as long as its seal rem ains engaged in the
dipstick tube.
