the transm ission selector is in D (Drive);
During cold tem peratu re operation you may notice de-
layed upshifts depend ing on engine and transm ission
tem peratu re. This featu re improves the warm up time of
the engine and transm ission.
the engine coolant has reached norm al operating tem -
peratu re;
•
vehicle speed is above approxim ately 30 mph (48
km/ h);
If the transm ission tem peratu re gets extrem ely hot, the
transm ission will autom atically select the most desirable
gear for operation at this tem peratu re. If the transm ission
tem peratu re becom es hot enou gh, the “TRAN SMISSION
OVER TEMP” message may display and the transm is- 5
sion may downshift out of Overd rive until the transm is-
sion cools down. After cool down, the transm ission will
resu me norm al operation.
•
•
the “TOW/ HAUL” switch has not been activated ;
transm ission has reached norm al operating tem pera-
ture.
NOTE: If the vehicle is started in extrem ely cold tem -
peratu res, the transm ission may not shift into Overd rive
and will autom atically select the most desirable gear for
operation at this tem peratu re. Norm al operation will
resu me when the transm ission fluid tem peratu re has
risen to a suitable level. Refer also to the Note und er
torqu e converter clutch, later in this section.
In high ambient tem peratu res with sustained high engine
speed and load , an upshift follow ed shortly thereafter by
a downshift may occur. This is a norm al part of the
overheat protection strategy when operating in the
“Tow/ Haul” mode.
