MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE
•
•
Make sure that the rad iator and coolant recovery
bottle hoses are not kinked or obstru cted .
Pay particu lar attention to the hoses nearest to high heat
sou rces such as the exhau st manifold . Insp ect hose rou t-
ing to be sure hoses do not tou ch any heat sou rce or
moving component that may cause heat damage or
mechanical wear.
Keep the front of the rad iator clean. If you r vehicle is
equ ipped with air cond itioning, keep the front of the
cond enser clean, also.
Insu re nylon tubing in these areas has not melted or
collap sed . Insp ect all hose connections such as clamps
and couplings to make sure they are secure and no leaks
are present. Com ponents shou ld be rep laced immedi-
ately if there is any evid ence of degrad ation that could
cause failu re.
•
Do not change the therm ostat for summer or winter
operation. If rep lacem ent is ever necessary, install
ONLY the correct typ e therm ostat. Other designs may
resu lt in unsatisfactory cooling perform ance, poor gas
mileage, and increased emissions.
Hoses and Vacuum/Vapor Harnesses
Fuel System Connections
Insp ect surfaces of hoses and nylon tubing for evid ence
of heat and mechanical damage. Hard or soft spots,
brittle rubber, cracking, tears, cuts, abrasions, and exces-
sive swelling ind icate deterioration of the rubber.
Electronic Fuel Injection high pressu re fuel system s are
designed with tubes and special connects, connections
and clamps which have uniqu e material characteristics to
provid e adequ ate sealing and resist attack by deterio-
rated gasoline.
