UNDERSTANDING YOUR INSTRUMENT PANEL
NOTE: If the instru ment cluster is equ ipped with the
optional Electronic Vehicle Inform ation Center (EVIC),
then all warnings will only display in the EVIC. (Refer to
“Electronic Vehicle Inform ation Center (EVIC)” in this
section for specific messages).
Cha nge Oil
Your vehicle is equ ipped with an engine oil change
ind icator system . The “Change Oil” message will flash in
the instru ment cluster odometer for approxim ately 12
second s after a single chim e has sou nd ed to ind icate the
next sched uled oil change interval. The engine oil change
ind icator system is duty cycle based , which means the
engine oil change interval may fluctuate depend ent upon
you r personal driving style.
gASCAP
If the vehicle diagnostic system detects a leak or change
in the evap orative system , or the fuel filler cap is loose,
improp erly installed , or damaged , the word s “gASCAP”
will display in the odometer. If this occurs, tighten the
fuel filler cap prop erly and press the odometer reset
button to turn off the “gASCAP” message. (Refer to
“Onboard Diagnostic System — OBDII” in Section 7 of
this manu al for more inform ation). If the problem con-
tinu es, the message will appear the next time the vehicle
is started . See you r authorized dealer service center as
soon as possible.
Unless reset, this message will continu e to display each
time you turn the ignition switch to the “ON ” position.
To turn off the message tem porarily, press and release the
Trip Odometer button on the instru ment cluster. To reset
the oil change ind icator system (after perform ing the
sched uled maintenance) perform the follow ing proce-
dure:

Turn the ignition switch to the “ON ” position (Do
not start the engine).
