Automatic-Locking Retractor (ALR)
Seat Belts and Pregnant Women
The center seating position on vehicles equ ipped with a
second row bench seat is equ ipped with an Autom atic-
Locking Retractor (ALR). Pull the belt from the retractor
until there is enou gh to allow you to pass throu gh the
child restraint and slide the latch plate into the buckle.
Then pull on the belt until it is all rem oved from the
retractor. Allow the belt to retu rn into the retractor,
pulling on the excess webbing to tighten the lap portion
abou t the child restraint. Follow the instru ctions of the
child restraint manu factu rer.
We recom mend that pregnant women use the seat belts
throu ghou t their pregnancy. Keeping the mother safe is
the best way to keep the baby safe.
2
Pregnant women shou ld wear the lap part of the belt
across the thighs and as snu g across the hip s as possible.
Keep the belt low so that it does not come across the
abd omen. That way the strong bones of the hip s will take
the force if there is a collision.
Seat Belt Extender
If a seat belt is too short, even when fully extend ed and
when the adjustable upper shou lder belt anchorage (if
equ ipped) is in its lowest position, you r dealer can
provid e you with a seat belt extend er. This extend er
shou ld be used only if the existing belt is not long
enou gh. When it is not requ ired , rem ove the extend er
and stow it.
NOTE: To reset this featu re you must let all of the belt
webbing retu rn into the retractor. You will not be able to
pull out more webbing until all of the webbing has been
retu rned back into the retractor.
