DRIVING THROUGH WATER
When driving on wet or slushy road s, it is possible for a
wedge of water to build up betw een the tire and road
surface. This is know n as hyd rop laning and may cause
partial or complete loss of vehicle control and stop ping
ability. To red uce this possibility, the follow ing precau -
tions shou ld be observed :
Driving throu gh water more than a few inches deep will
requ ire extra caution to ensu re safety and prevent dam-
age to you r vehicle.
Flowing/Rising Water

Slow down during rainstorm s or when road s are
Do not drive on or cross a road or a path where water
is flow ing and/or risin g (as in storm run-off). Flow -
ing water can wear away the road or path ’s surface
and cause you r veh icle to sin k into deep er water.
Furth erm ore, flow ing and/or risin g water can carry
you r veh icle away swiftly. Failu re to follow this
warn ing may resu lt in injuries that are seriou s or
fatal to you , you r passen gers, and oth ers arou nd you .

Slow down if road has stand ing water or puddles.
Replace tires when tread wear ind icators first becom e
visible.

Keep tires prop erly inflated .

Maintain sufficient distance betw een you r vehicle and
the vehicle in front to avoid a collision in a sudden stop .
