STARTING AND OPERATING
AUTOSTICK
NOTE:   In Autostick௡   mode, the  transaxle  will only  shift
up  or down  when   the driver  moves   the selector  lever  to
the  Right   (+)  for  shifting   up  or   to  the  Left  (-)  when
shifting  down.
AutoStick  is a  driver-interactive    transm ission  that  offers
manu al gear  shifting capability   to provid e you with  more
control.  AutoStick  allow s you  to  maxim ize engine  brak-
ing,  eliminate  und esirable  upshifts   and  downshifts,   and
improve   overall   vehicle  perform ance.   This  system  can
also  provid e you  with  more  control  during  passing,   city
driving,    cold   slippery   cond itions,   mountain    driving,
trailer  tow ing, and  many  other  situ ations.
AutoStickGeneral Information
You  can start  out  in  first  or  second  gear.  The system
will  ignore  attem pts to  upshift  at too  low  of a vehicle
speed .
If a ratio  other   than  1st is selected ,  and  the vehicle  is
brou ght  to   a  stop ,  the  transaxle   control   logic   will
autom atically  select  the 1st  gear  ratio.
AutoStick Operation
By placing  the selector  lever  one shift-level  below  the ЉDЉ
position,  it  can be  moved  from  side  to side.  This  allow s
the  driver   to  select  a  higher   or  lower   range  of  gears.
Moving   the   selector   lever   to   the  Left   (-)  triggers    a
downshift    and  to  the   Right  (+)   an  upshift.   The  gear
position   will  display   in  the  instru  ment  cluster   on  the
transaxle  range  ind icator.
Starting  out  in second  gear  is  help ful in snow y  or icy
cond itions.
Avoid using  speed  control when  Autostick௡  is engaged .
The transaxle   will  autom atically  shift  up  when  maxi-
mum   engine   speed   is  reached   while   Autostick௡   is
engaged .
