Compass Display — If Equipped
This display provid es one of eight compass read ings to
ind icate the direction the vehicle is facing.
To put into a Calib ration Mode: Turn on the ignition
switch and set the display to Com pass. Press the RESET
button for at least 10 second s until the “COMPASS
CALIBRATING” message appears. Release the MENU
button and drive the vehicle in one or more complete
three, 360° circles, und er 5 mph (8 km/ h) in an area free
from large metal objects, until the “COMPASS CALI-
BRATING” message turns off.
Autom atic Com pass Calib ration
This compass is self-calibrating which eliminates the
need to manu ally calibrate the compass. When the ve-
hicle is new, the compass may appear erratic and the
EVIC will display “COMPASS CALIBRATING” until the
compass is calibrated . The compass will function nor-
mally.

Com pass Varian ce
Com pass Variance is the difference betw een magnetic
North and Geograp hic North. In som e areas of the
country, the difference betw een magnetic and geograp hic
North is great enou gh to cause the compass to give false
read ings. In ord er to ensu re accuracy, the compass vari-
ance shou ld be prop erly set accord ing to the compass
variance zone that the vehicle is in.
To calibrate the compass, drive the vehicle in one or more
complete 360° circles, und er 5 mph (8 km/ h) in an area
free from large metal objects, until the “COMPASS CALI-
BRATING” message turns off.
Manual Com pass Calib ration
If the compass appears erratic, inaccu rate or abnorm al,
you may wish to manu ally calibrate the compass. Prior to
calibration, make sure the prop er zone is selected .
