CAUTIO N!
It is dangerou s to move the shift lever out of PARK or
NEUTRAL if the engin e speed is high er than idle
speed . If you r foot is not firm ly on the brak e pedal,
the veh icle could accelerate quickly forw ard or in
reverse. You could lose control of the veh icle and hit
som eon e or som eth ing. Only shift into gear when the
engin e is idlin g norm ally and when you r foot is
firm ly on the brak e pedal.
Damage to the tran saxle may occur if the follow ing
precau tion s are not observed :
Move the shift lever into PARK only after the
veh icle has come to a complete stop .
Do not move the shift lever from REVERSE,
PARK, or NEUTRAL into any forw ard gear when
the engin e is above idle speed .

Before movin g the shift lever into any gear, make
sure you r foot is firm ly on the brak e pedal.
Brake/Transaxle Interlock System
This vehicle is equ ipped with a Brake Transm ission Shift
Interlock System (BTSI) that hold s the shift lever in the
PARK position when the ignition switch is in the LOCK
position. To move the shift lever out of the PARK
position, the ignition switch must be turned to any other
switch position (ACC, ON, or START) (engine running or
not) and the brake pedal must be pressed .
NOTE: You must press and hold the brake pedal down
while shifting out of PARK.
