of child restraints can be used rearw ard -facing: infant
carriers and convertible child seats. Both typ es of child
restraints are held in the vehicle by the lap/ shou lder
belt or the LATCH child restraint anchorage system .

The infant carrier is only used rearw ard -facing in the
vehicle. It is recom mend ed for child ren who weigh up
to abou t 20 lbs (9 kg). Convertible child seats can be
used either rearw ard -facing or forw ard -facing in the
vehicle. Convertible child seats often have a higher
weight limit in the rearw ard -facing direction than
infant carriers do, so they can be used rearw ard -facing
by child ren who weigh more than 20 lbs (9 kg) but are
less than one year old.
