ESP uses sensors in the vehicle to determ ine the vehicle
path intend ed by the driver and compares it to the actu al
path of the vehicle. When the actu al path does not match
the intend ed path, ESP applies the brake of the approp ri-
ate wheel to assist in counteracting the oversteer or
und ersteer cond ition.

The BAS cannot preven t accid ents, including
those resu ltin g from excessive speed in turns,
drivin g on very slip pery surfaces, or hydrop lan -
ing. Only a safe, atten tive, and skillfu l driver can
preven t accid ents.
The capabilities of a BAS-eq uipped veh icle must
never be exploited in a reck less or dangerou s
manner which could jeop ard ize the user’s safety
or the safety of oth ers.

ESP On
Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
This mode is the norm al operating mode for ESP on
two-wheel drive vehicles. Whenever the vehicle is
started , the ESP system will be in this mode. This mode
shou ld be used for most driving situ ations. ESP shou ld
only be turned off for specific reasons as noted below.
The Electronic Stability Program (ESP) enhances direc-
tional control and stability of the vehicle und er variou s
driving cond itions. ESP corrects for over/ und er steering
of the vehicle by applying the brake of the approp riate
wheel to assist in counteracting the over/ und er steer
cond ition. Engine power may also be red uced to help the
vehicle maintain the desired path.
