STARTING AND OPERATING
Brake Transmission Shift Interlock System (BTSI)
This vehicle is equ ipped with a brake transm ission shift
interlock system (BTSI) that hold s the gearshift lever in
the P (Park) position when the ignition switch is in an
unlocked position. To move the gear selector lever out of
the P (Park) position, the ignition switch must be turned
to the OFF, ON, or START position, the brake pedal and
the button on the front side of the shifter hand le must be
depressed .
Protect Mode - Electronically Controlled
Transmission (4.7L Engine Only)
This transm ission is monitored electronically for abnor-
mal cond itions. If an abnorm al cond ition is detected , the
transm ission’s electronic controller will autom atically
select direct gear (in the Drive position) or 2nd gear (in
the 2 or 1 position). This featu re will allow the vehicle to
be driven to the dealer for service minim izing any
damage to the transm ission. Some cond itions that will
cause the transm ission to use this alternate gear selection
are momentary and the transm ission can be reset to the
norm al shift program by perform ing the follow ing:
Electronically Controlled Five Speed Automatic
Transmission (4.7L Engine Only)
This electronically controlled transm ission provid es a
precise shift sched ule. The transm ission electronics are
self calibrating; therefore, the first few shifts on a new
vehicle may be som ewhat abru pt. This is a norm al
cond ition, and precision shifts will develop within a
couple hu nd red miles (kilom eters).
• Stop the vehicle and shift into P (Park).
•
Turn the ignition key to the OFF position and then
restart the engine.
• Shift into the desire shift range and resu me driving.
