STARTING AND OPERATING
Prop er operation of four wheel drive vehicles depend s on
tires of equ al size, typ e, and circumference on each
wheel. Any difference will adversely affect shifting and
cause damage to the transfer case.
Shift Positions
For additional inform ation on the approp riate use of each
transfer case mode position, see the inform ation below :
2WD
Rear Wheel Drive High Range — Norm al street and
highw ay driving. Dry hard surfaced road s.
Because four wheel drive provid es improved traction,
there is a tend ency to exceed safe turning and stop ping
speed s. Do not go faster than road cond itions perm it.

WARN ING!
Part Time 4 Wheel Drive High Range — Locks the
transfer case inter-axle differential. Forces the front and
rear wheels to rotate at the sam e speed . Additional
traction for loose, slippery road surfaces only.
You or oth ers could be injured if you leave the
veh icle unatten ded with the tran sfer case in the N
(Neutral) position with out first fully engagin g the
park ing brak e. The tran sfer case N (Neutral) position
disen gages both the fron t and rear drivesh afts from
the powertrain and will allow the veh icle to move
regard less of the tran smission position . The park ing
brak e should alw ays be applied when the driver is
not in the veh icle.

FULL TIM E
Full Time 4 Wheel Drive High Range — Employs inter-
axle differential. Allow s front and rear wheels to rotate at
different speed s. All road s surfaces.
