For driving   up very  steep  hills and  for  engine  braking  at
low  speed s  (25  mph   (40  km/  h)  or  less)  when   going
downhill.    To  prevent   excessive   engine   speed   do   not
exceed  25 mph  (40 km/  h) in  this range.
If the  transm  ission  tem peratu re gets  too  hot,  the  trans-
mission   may   downshift    out   of  Overd rive   or  engage
overd rive  at  higher   vehicle  speed s  (4.7L engines   only)
until  the transm ission  cools down.  After coold own, Over-
drive  will  resu me norm al operation.

Never   race  the  engin e  with  the   brak es  on  and  the
veh icle  in  gear,  and   never  hold   the   veh icle on   an
inclin e with out  applyin  g the  brak es. These  practices
can  cause  overh eatin g  and  damage   to the  tran smis-
sion .
For  driving  slow ly in  heavy  city  traffic  or on  mountain
road s where  more  precise speed   control is  desirable.  Use
it also  when  climbing  long  grad es,  and  for engine  brak-
ing  when  descend  ing  moderately   steep  grad es.  To pre-
vent  excessive  engine  speed ,  do  not exceed  45  mph  (72
km/  h) in this  range.
