MAINTAINING YOUR VEHICLE
Hoses and Vacuum/Vapor Harnesses
Brake System
Insp ect surfaces  of  hoses  and  nylon  tubing  for  evid ence
of  heat   and  mechanical    damage.   Hard   or   soft  spots,
brittle  rubber,  cracking,  tears,  cuts,  abrasions,  and  exces-
sive  swelling  ind icate deterioration    of the  rubber.
In  ord er to  assu re brake  system   perform ance,  all  brake
system   components    shou ld  be   insp ected  period ically.
Refer   to  the   approp riate   “Maintenance    Sched ule”   in
Section  8 for suggested   service  intervals.
Pay particu  lar attention   to the  hoses nearest  to  high  heat
sou rces such  as the  exhau st manifold .  Insp ect hose rou t-
ing  to  be  sure  hoses  do   not  tou ch any   heat  sou rce or
moving   component    that   may   cause   heat   damage   or
mechanical   wear.
WARN ING!
Rid ing  the   brak es  can   lead   to  brak e  failu  re  and
possib ly  an accid ent.  Drivin g  with  you r foot  restin g
or rid ing on  the brak e pedal  can  resu lt in abnorm  ally
high  brak e tem peratu  res, excessive   lin ing wear,  and
possib le  brak e damage.  You  wouldn’t   have you r full
brak ing  capacity  in  an  emergen cy.
Insu re  nylon  tubing   in  these   areas  has   not  melted   or
collap sed . Insp ect all  hose  connections   such   as  clamps
and  couplings  to  make sure  they  are secure  and  no leaks
are  present.   Com ponents   shou ld  be  rep laced  immedi-
ately  if there  is  any  evid ence of  degrad ation  that   could
cause  failu re.

When  servicing   the  vehicle  for sched uled   maintenance,
insp ect  surface  of  hoses  for  evid ence  of  heat  and   me-
