ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM
The Anti-Lock Brake System cond ucts a low-speed self-
test at abou t 12 mph (20 km/ h). If you have you r foot
lightly on the brake while this test is occurring you may
feel slight pedal movem ent. The movem ent can be more
apparent on ice and snow. This is norm al.
The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) is designed to aid the
driver in maintaining vehicle control und er adverse
braking cond itions. The system operates with a separate
computer to modulate hyd rau lic pressu re to prevent
wheel lock-u p and help avoid skid ding on slippery
surfaces.
The Anti-Lock Brake System pump motor runs during
the self-test at 12 mph (20 km/ h) and during an ABS stop .
The pump motor makes a low hu mming noise during
operation, which is norm al.
All vehicle wheels and tires must be the sam e size and
typ e and tires must be prop erly inflated to prod uce
accurate signals for the computer.

Pumping of the Anti-Lock Brak es will diminish
their effectiven ess and may lead to an accid ent.
Pumping makes the stop ping distan ce lon ger. Just
press firm ly on you r brak e pedal when you need to
slow down or stop .
Sign ifican t over or under inflation of tires, or mixin g
sizes of tires or wheels on the veh icle can lead to loss
of brak ing effectiven ess.
