STARTING AND OPERATING
Rocking the Vehicle
CAUTIO N!
If the vehicle becom es stu ck in snow, sand , or mud, it can
often be moved by a rocking motion. Move the gear
selector rhythm ically betw een “First” and R (Reverse),
while applying slight pressu re to the accelerator.
When “rock ing” a stu ck veh icle by movin g betw een
“First” and R (Reverse), do not spin the wheels faster
than 15 mph (24 km/h), or drivetrain damage may
resu lt.
The least amount of accelerator pedal pressu re to main-
tain the rocking motion withou t spinning the wheels or
racing the engine is most effective. Racing the engine or
spinning the wheels, due to the frustration of not freeing
the vehicle, may lead to transm ission overheating and
failu re. Allow the engine to idle with the transm ission
selector in N (Neutral) for at least one minu te after every
five rocking-m otion cycles. This will minim ize overheat-
ing and red uce the risk of transm ission failu re during
prolonged efforts to free a stu ck vehicle.
