Vehicle speed is above approxim ately 30 mph (48
km/ h).
The O/ D OFF featu re must be selected , if desired , each
time the engine is started .
Transm ission has reached norm al operating tem pera-
ture.
When frequ ent transm ission shifting occurs while using
overd rive, such as when operating the vehicle und er
heavy load cond itions (for exam ple, in hilly terrain,
strong head wind s, or trailer tow ing), turning off over-
drive will improve perform ance and extend transm ission
life by red ucing excessive shifting and heat buildup.

4th and 5th gears (Overd rive) can be locked out by
pressing the O/ D OFF switch located on side of the
gearshift lever. The O/ D OFF ind icator light will illumi-
nate to show that the switch has been activated . When
the light is on, 4th and 5th gears (Overd rive) are locked
out. Pressing the switch a second time restores the
Overd rive function. The lockou t featu re is useful when
tow ing a trailer or carrying a heavy load .
NOTE: If the vehicle is started in cold outsid e tem pera-
tures, shifts into Overd rive may be delayed (4.7L engines
only). Norm al Overd rive and shifting operation will
resu me when the tem peratu re of the transm ission
