STARTING AND OPERATING

When shifting into P (Park), depress the button on the
shift lever and firm ly move the lever all the way
forw ard until it stop s.
R—Reverse
Use this range only after the vehicle has come to a
complete stop .

Look at the shift ind icator wind ow on the console to
ensu re it is in the P (Park) position.
N—Neutral
Shift to N (Neutral) when the vehicle is stand ing for
prolonged period s with the engine running. The engine
may be started in this range. Set the parking brake if you
must leave the vehicle.
When engaged in P (Park), you will not be able to
move the shifter rearw ard withou t depressing the shift
lever button.
Overd rive
For most city and highw ay driving. The transm is-
sion contains electronically controlled 4th and 5th
gears (Overd rives) and will autom atically shift from D
(Drive) to 4th and 5th gears if the follow ing cond itions
are present:
CAUTIO N!
Before movin g the shift lever out of P (Park ), you
must turn the ign ition from LOCK to ON so steerin g
wheel and shift lever are released . Otherw ise, dam-
age to steerin g colu mn or shifter could resu lt.
• The transm ission selector is in D (Drive).
•
The O/ D OFF switch has not been activated .
