Alw ays load a trailer with 60% of the cargo weight in the
front of the trailer. This places approxim ately 10% to 15%
of the GTW on the tow hitch of you r vehicle. This portion
of the GTW becom es the tongu e weight.

Turn off tem porarily.
Trailer sway control and equ alizing hitch are requ ired for
tongu e weights above 350 lbs (159 kg)., i.e., trailer
weights heavier than 3,500 lbs (1 587 kg).
To red uce the potential for transm ission overheating,
turn the “Overd rive” off when pulling any trailer or shift
the transm ission to Drive position 2 on more severe
grad es. Move the shift lever to the next lower position to 5
eliminate excessive transm ission shifting. This action will
also red uce the possibility of transm ission overheating
and provid e better engine braking.
Cooling System Tips—Trailer Towing
To red uce potential for engine and transm ission over-
heating in high ambient cond itions, take the follow ing
actions:

When stop ped, put transm ission in N (Neutral) and
increase engine idle speed .
