Malfunct ion Indica tor Light

This light is part of an onboard diagnostic
system called OBD. The OBD system monitors
engine and autom atic transm ission control sys-
The TPM S has been optim ized for the origin al
equipment tires and wheels. TPM S pressu res and
warn ing have been estab lish ed for the tire size
equipped on you r veh icle. Undesirab le system op-
eration or sen sor damage may resu lt when usin g
rep lacem ent equipment that is not of the sam e size,
typ e, and/or style. After-m ark et wheels can cause
sen sor damage. Do not use tire sealan t from a can, or
balan ce bead s if you r veh icle is equipped with a
TPM S, as damage to the sen sors may resu lt.
tem s. The light will turn on when the key is in the ON
position before engine start. If the light does not come
on when turning the key from OFF to ON, have the
cond ition checked prom ptly.
Certain cond itions such as a loose or missing gas cap,
poor fuel quality, etc. may illuminate the light after
engine start. The vehicle shou ld be serviced if the light
stays on throu gh several of you r typ ical driving cycles. In
most situ ations, the vehicle will drive norm ally and will
not requ ire tow ing.

Voltage Light
This light monitors the electrical system volt-
age. The light shou ld turn on momentarily as
the engine is started . If the light stays on or turns on
while driving, it ind icates a problem with the charging
system . Immediate service shou ld be obtained .
The Malfu nction Ind icator Light flashes to alert you to
seriou s cond itions that could lead to immediate loss of
power or severe catalytic converter damage. The vehicle
shou ld be serviced as soon as possible if this occurs. (See
page 332 for more inform ation.)
