Towing Req uirem ents — Trailer Brak es
CAUTIO N!
−
Do not interconnect the hyd rau lic brake system or
vacu um system of you r vehicle with that of the trailer.
This could cause inad equ ate braking and possible
personal injury.
If the trailer weigh s more than 1,000 lbs (454 kg)
load ed, it should have its own brak es, and they
should be of adequate capacity. Failu re to do this
could lead to accelerated brak e lin ing wear, high er
brak e pedal effort, and lon ger stop ping distan ces.
−
An electronically actu ated trailer brake controller is
requ ired when tow ing a trailer with electronically
actu ated brakes. When tow ing a trailer equ ipped with
a hyd rau lic surge actu ated brake system , an electronic
brake controller is not requ ired .
WARN ING!
Do not connect trailer brak es to you r veh icle’s hy-
drau lic brak e lin es. It can overload you r brak e sys-
tem and cause it to fail. You migh t not have brak es
when you need them and could have an accid ent.
−
Trailer brakes are recom mend ed for trailers over 1,000
lbs (454 kg) and requ ired for trailers in excess of 2,000
lbs (907 kg).
Towing any trailer will increase you r stop ping dis-
tan ce. When tow ing, you should allow for addition al
space betw een you r veh icle and the veh icle in fron t
of you . Failu re to do so could resu lt in an accid ent.
