A loose tap e shou ld be corrected before use. To rew ind
CD/DVD DISC MAINTENANCE
a loose tap e, insert the eraser end of a pencil into the tap e
drive gear and twist the pencil in the requ ired directions.
To keep the CD/ DVD discs in good cond ition, take the
follow ing precau tions:
Maintain you r cassette tap e player. The head and capstan
shaft in the cassette player can pick up dirt or tap e
deposits each time a cassette is played . The resu lt of
deposits on the capstan shaft may cause the tap e to wrap
arou nd and becom e lodged in the tap e transp ort. The
other adverse cond ition is low or “muddy” sou nd from
one or both channels, as if the treble tone control were
turned all the way down. To prevent this, you shou ld
period ically clean the head with a commercially available
WET cleaning cassette.
1. Hand le the disc by its edge; avoid tou ching the
surface.
2.
If the disc is stained , clean the surface with a soft cloth,
wiping from center to edge.
3. Do not apply paper, paper CD labels, or tap e to the
disc; avoid scratching the disc.
4.
Do not use solvents such as benzine, thinner, cleaners,
or antistatic sprays.
5.
Store the disc in its case after playing.
6. Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight.
Do not store the disc where tem peratu res may becom e
too high.
As preventive maintenance, clean the head abou t every

hou rs of use. If you wait until the head becom es very
dirty (noticeably poor sou nd ), it may not be possible to
rem ove all deposits with a simple WET cleaning cassette.
