STARTING AND OPERATING
Reformulated Gasoline
Many areas of the country requ ire the use of cleaner
burning gasoline referred to as “Reform ulated Gasoline”.
CAUTIO N!
DO NOT use gasolin es contain ing Meth anol or E85
Ethanol. Use of these blen ds may resu lt in startin g
and driveab ility prob lem s and may damage critical
fuel system components.
Reform ulated gasolines contain oxygenates, and are spe-
cifically blend ed to red uce vehicle emissions and im-
prove air quality.
The manu factu rer supports the use of reform ulated gaso-
lines. Prop erly blend ed reform ulated gasolines will pro-
vid e excellent perform ance and durability of engine and
fuel system components.
Problem s that resu lt from using methanol/ gasoline or
E85 Ethanol blend s are not the resp onsibility of the
manu factu rer. While MTBE is an oxygenate made from
Methanol, it does not have the negative effects of Metha-
nol.
Gasoline/Oxygenate Blends
Some fuel suppliers blend unlead ed gasoline with oxy-
genates such as 10% ethanol, MTBE, and ETBE. Oxygen-
ates are requ ired in som e areas of the country during the
winter months to red uce carbon monoxid e emissions.
Fuels blend ed with these oxygenates may be used in
you r vehicle.
MMT In Gasoline
MMT is a manganese containing metallic additive that is
blend ed into som e gasoline to increase the octane nu m-
ber. Gasolines blend ed with MMT offer no perform ance
advantage beyond gasolines of the sam e octane nu mber
withou t MMT. Gasolines blend ed with MMT have show n
to red uce spark plug life and red uce emission system
perform ance in som e vehicles. The manu factu rer recom -
mend s using gasolines withou t MMT. Since the MMT
