STARTING AND OPERATING
The follow ing ind icators shou ld be used to ensu re that
you have engaged the selector lever into the P (Park)
position:
CAUTIO N!
Coastin g the veh icle, or drivin g for any oth er reason
with selector lever in NEUTRAL can resu lt in tran s-
mission damage.

When shifting into P (Park) move the lever all the way
forw ard until it stop s, and is fully seated .
Look at the shift ind icator display on the instru ment
panel to ensu re it is in the P (Park) position.
WARN ING!
Do not coast in N (Neutral) and never turn off the
ign ition to coast down a hill. These are unsafe
practices that lim it you r resp onse to changin g traffic
or road condition s. You migh t lose control of the
veh icle and have an accid ent.
CAUTIO N!
Damage to the shifter could resu lt if the selector
lever is moved out of P (Park ) before the ign ition is
turned from the LOCK to ON position .
D (Overdrive)
R (Reverse)
This range shou ld be used for most city and highw ay
driving. It provid es the smoothest up shifts and down
shifts, and the best fuel econom y. Select the “3” range
when frequ ent transm ission shifting occurs when us-
ing the Overd rive range, such as when operating the
For moving the vehicle rearw ard . Alw ays stop before
moving the lever to R (Reverse), excep t when rocking
the vehicle.
N (Neut ral)
Engine may be started in this range.
