Usin g a tran smission flu id oth er than the manu-
factu rer’s recom mended flu id may cause deterio-
ration in tran smission shift quality and/or torq ue
converter shudder. Usin g a tran smission flu id
oth er than that recom mended by the manufac-
turer will resu lt in more freq uent flu id and filter
changes. Refer to “Flu ids, Lubrican ts, and Genu-
ine Parts” for the correct flu id typ e.
Severe Usage is defined as:

Police, taxi, limousine, commercial typ e operation, or
trailer tow ing where the vehicle is driven regu larly for
more than 45 minu tes of continu ous operation.
If the transm ission is disassem bled for any reason, the
fluid and filter shou ld be changed .
Special Additives
The flu id level is preset at the factory and it does
not req uire adjustm ent under norm al operatin g
condition s. If a tran smission flu id leak occurs,
visit you r authorized dealer immediately. Severe
damage to the tran smission may occur. Your au-
thorized dealer has the prop er tools to adjust the
flu id level accurately.
Autom atic Transm ission Fluid (ATF) is an engineered
prod uct and its perform ance may be impaired by supple-
mental additives. Therefore, do not add any fluid addi-
tives to the transm ission. The only excep tion to this
policy is the use of special dyes to aid in detecting fluid
leaks. In addition, avoid using transm ission sealers as
they may adversely affect seals.
