Never have any smoking materials lit in or near
the veh icle when the gas cap is rem oved or the
tan k filled .

Damage to the fuel system or emission control
system could resu lt from usin g an improp er fuel
tan k filler tube cap (gas cap).

Never add fuel to the veh icle when the engin e is
running.
•

A poorly fittin g gas cap could let impurities into
the fuel system .
A fire may resu lt if gasolin e is pumped into a
portab le contain er that is insid e of a veh icle. You
could be burned. Alw ays place gas contain ers on
the grou nd while fillin g.
A poorly fittin g gas cap may cause the Malfu nc-
tion Indicator Ligh t to turn on.
To avoid fuel spillage and overfillin g, do not “top
off” the fuel tan k after fillin g. When the fuel
nozzle “click s” or shuts off, the fuel tan k is full.
NOTE:
•
Tighten the gas cap until you hear a “clicking” sou nd .
This is an ind ication that the gas cap is tightened
prop erly. The Malfu nction Ind icator Light in the in-
stru ment cluster may turn on if the gas cap is not
secured prop erly. Make sure that the gas cap is tight-
ened each time the vehicle is refu eled .

When the fuel nozzle “clicks” or shu ts off, the fuel
tank is full.
