NOTE: To avoid overrevving the engine when the
selector lever is moved in “D -” direction, the transm is-
sion will not shift to a lower gear if the engine’s revolu -
tions per minu te limit would be exceed ed.
Delayed Shifts in Cold Temperatu res
During cold tem peratu re operation you may notice de-
layed upshifts depend ing on engine and transm ission
tem peratu re as well as vehicle speed . This featu re im-
proves warm up time of the engine and transm ission to
achieve maxim um efficiency.
Briefly press the selector lever in the “D +” direction. The
transm ission will shift from the current gear to the next
higher gear.
Temporary Transmission Limp Home Mode
The transm ission is monitored for abnorm al cond itions.
If a cond ition is detected that could resu lt in transm ission 5
damage, the transm ission will engage Limp Home Mod e.
If vehicle acceleration worsens, or the transm ission no
longer shifts, the transm ission is most likely operating in
the Limp Home Mod e. In this mode, the transm ission
will rem ain in the current gear until the vehicle is
brou ght to a stop . After the vehicle has stop ped,
PARK(P), REVERSE(R), and NEUTRAL(N ) will continu e
to operate. SECON D gear will operate in the DRIVE(D)
shifter position. The Malfu nction Ind icator Lamp may be
illuminated .
Press and hold the selector lever in the “D +” direction.
The transm ission will shift from the current gear directly
to gear “D”.
WARN ING!
On slip pery road surfaces, never downshift in ord er
to obtain brak ing action . This could resu lt in drive
wheel slip and red uced veh icle control. Your veh i-
cle’s ABS will not preven t this typ e of loss of control.
You could lose control of you r veh icle and have an
accid ent.
