WHAT TO DO IN EMERGENCIES
NOTE: The battery is stored und er an access cover in
the tru nk. Remote battery term inals are located in the
engine compartm ent for jump starting.

Do not attem pt to push or tow you r veh icle to get it
started . Vehicles equipped with an autom atic tran s-
mission cannot be started this way. Unburned fuel
could enter the catalytic converter and once the
engin e has started , ign ite and damage the converter
and veh icle. If the veh icle has a disch arged battery,
booster cables may be used to obtain a start from
anoth er veh icle. This typ e of start can be dangerou s
if done improp erly, so follow this proced ure care-
fully.
NOTE: The battery in this vehicle has a vent hose that
shou ld not be disconnected and shou ld only be rep laced
with a battery of the sam e typ e (vented ).

Wear eye protection and rem ove any metal jewelry
such as watch band s or bracelets that might make an
inad vertent electrical contact.
2. When boost is provid ed by a battery in another
vehicle, park that vehicle within booster cable reach and
withou t letting the vehicles tou ch. Set the parking brake,
place the autom atic transm ission in PARK and turn the
ignition switch to the OFF (or LOCK) position for both
vehicles.

Battery flu id is a corrosive acid solu tion ; do not
allow battery flu id to contact eyes, skin or cloth ing.
Don’t lean over battery when attach ing clam ps or
allow the clam ps to tou ch each oth er. If acid splash es
in eyes or on skin, flu sh contam inated area immedi-
ately with large quantities of water.

Turn off the heater, rad io and all unnecessary electrical
A battery gen erates hydrogen gas which is flam -
mable and explosive. Keep flam e or spark away from
the ven t holes. Do not use a booster battery or any
oth er booster sou rce with an output that exceed s 12
volts.
