FREEING A STUCK VEHICLE
WARN ING!
If you r vehicle becom es stu ck in mud, sand or snow, it
can often be moved by a rocking motion. Turn you r
steering wheel right and left to clear the area arou nd the
front wheels. Then shift back and forth betw een Reverse
and Drive. Usu ally the least accelerator pedal pressu re to
maintain the rocking motion withou t spinning the
wheels is most effective.
Fast spinning tires can be dangerou s. Forces gen er-
ated by excessive wheel speed s may cause tire dam-
age or failu re. A tire could explod e and injure
som eon e. Do not spin you r veh icle’s wheels faster
than 35 mph (55 km/h) when you are stu ck. And
don’t let anyon e near a spinning wheel, no matter
what the speed .
NOTE: Turn off the Electronic Stability Program (ESP)

if equ ipped, or Traction Control System (TCS) — if
equ ipped before rocking the vehicle. Refer to Electronic
Stability Program , or Traction Control System in you r
Owner’s Manu al for Details.

Racin g the engin e or spinning the wheels too fast

can also damage the tires. Do not spin the wheels
