means of adjusting the tension in the strap . Forw ard -
facing tod dler restraints and som e rear-facing infant
restraints will also be equ ipped with a tether strap , a
hook for attachm ent to the tether strap anchorage and a
means of adjusting the tension of the strap .

Improp er installation of a child restrain t to the
LATCH anchorages can lead to failu re of an infan t or
child restrain t. The child could be badly injured or
killed . Follow the manufactu rer’s direction s exactly
when installin g an infan t or child restrain t.

You will first loosen the adjusters on the lower strap s and
on the tether strap so that you can more easily attach the
hooks or connectors to the vehicle anchorages. Next
attach the lower hooks or connectors over the top of the
seat cover material. Then rotate the tether anchorage
cover directly behind the seat where you are placing the
child restraint and attach the tether strap to the anchor-
age, being carefu l to rou te the tether strap to provid e the
most direct path betw een the anchor and the child
restraint. If you r vehicle is equ ipped with adjustable rear
head restraints, raise the head restraint and , where pos-
sible, rou te the tether strap und er the head restraint and
betw een the two posts. If not possible, lower the head
restraint and rou te the tether strap arou nd the outboard
side of the head restraint. Finally, tighten all three strap s
as you push the child restraint rearw ard and downw ard
into the seat, rem oving slack in the strap s accord ing to
the child restraint manu factu rer’s instru ctions.
Installin g Child Restrain ts Usin g the Vehicle Seat
belt
The passenger seat belts are equ ipped with cinching latch
plates which are designed to keep the lap portion tight
arou nd the child restraint so that it is not necessary to use
a locking clip. Pulling up on the shou lder portion of the
lap/ shou lder belt will tighten the belt. The cinching latch
plate will keep the belt tight, how ever, any seat belt
system will loosen with time, so check the belt occasion-
ally and pull it tight if necessary.
