THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE
•
The Occupant Classification Module (OCM) is lo-
cated beneath the front passenger seat. The OCM
classifies the occupant into categories based on the
measu rem ents made by the seat weight sensors. The
OCM communicates with the Occupant Restraint Con-
troller (ORC). The ORC uses the occupant category to
determ ine whether the front passenger airbag shou ld
be turned off. It also determ ines the rate of airbag
inflation during a collision.
Airb ag Ligh t
You will want to have the airbags read y for you r protec-
tion in an impact. While the airbag system is designed to
be maintenance free, if any of the follow ing occurs, have
an authorized dealer service the system prom ptly:
•
The AIRBAG light does not come on or flickers during
the 6 to 8 second s when the ignition switch is first
turned on.
•
The light rem ains on or flickers after the 6 to 8 second
interval.

•
The Passen ger Airb ag Disab led (PAD) Indicator
Ligh t ind icates to the driver and passenger when the
airbag is turned OFF. In the presence of a prop erly
seated occupant, when the PAD ind icator light is
illuminated , the airbag is OFF. Also, when the Occu-
pant Classification System detects either an empty seat
or a weight less than the pred eterm ined threshold , the
ORC will not illuminate the PAD ind icator light even
thou gh the airbag is turned OFF.
• Thedriving.light flickers or comes on and rem ains on while
Even t Data Record er (EDR)
In the event of an airbag deploym ent, you r vehicle is
designed to record up to 2-second s of specific vehicle
data param eters (see list below ) in an event data record er
prior to the moment of airbag deploym ent. Please note
that such data are ONLY record ed if an airbag deploys,
and are otherw ise unavailable. In conju nction with other
data gathered during a complete accident investigation,
the electronic data may be used by Daim lerChrysler and
Your vehicle has four Weigh t Sen sors located betw een
the seat and the floor pan. The weight sensors measu re
applied weight and transfers that inform ation to the
OCM.
