STARTING AND OPERATING
If the engine show s no sign of starting after two 15–
second period s of cranking with the accelerator pedal
held to the floor, rep eat the “Norm al Starting” or “Ex-
trem e Cold Weather” proced ures.
CAUTIO N!
To preven t damage to the starter, wait 10 to 15 sec-
onds before tryin g again .
Wit h Tip Start — Automa tic Transmission Only
After Starting
If the engine fails to start after you have follow ed the
“Norm al Starting” or “Extrem e Cold Weather” proce-
dures, it may be flood ed. To clear any excess fuel, push
the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor and hold it.
Then, turn the ignition switch to the START position and
release it as soon as the starter engages. The starter motor
will disengage autom atically in 10 second s. Once this
occurs, release the accelerator pedal, turn the ignition
switch to the LOCK position, wait 10 to 15 second s, then
rep eat the “Norm al Starting” proced ure.
The idle speed will autom atically decrease as the engine
warm s up.
