THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE STARTING YOUR VEHICLE

Some of the most important safety featu res in you r
vehicle are the restraint system s. These inclu de the front
and rear seat belts for the driver and all passengers, front
airbags for both the driver and front passenger, and side
airbags (if equ ipped) for both the driver and front
passenger. If you will be carrying child ren too small for
adult-sized belts, you r seat belts can also be used to hold
infant and child restraint system s.
In a collision , you and you r passen gers can suffer
injuries, including fatalities, if you are not prop erly
buckled up. You can strik e the interior of you r
veh icle or oth er passen gers, or you can be throw n out
of the veh icle. Alw ays be sure you and oth ers in you r
veh icle are buckled up prop erly.
Buckle up even thou gh you are an excellent driver, even
on short trip s. Someone on the road may be a poor driver
and cause a collision that inclu des you . This can hap pen
far away from hom e or on you r own street.
NOTE: The front airbags have a multistage inflator
design. This allow s the airbag to have different rates of
inflation that are based on collision severity.
Please pay close attention to the inform ation in this
section. It tells you how to use you r restraint system
prop erly, to keep you and you r passengers as safe as
possible.
Research has show n that seat belts save lives, and that
they can red uce the seriou sness of injuries in a collision.
Some of the worst injuries hap pen when peop le are
throw n from the vehicle. Seat belts red uce the possibility
of ejection and the risk of injury caused by striking the
