be intru ding on any wildlife, and you can recover the
vehicle if necessary. The key to a safe crossing is the water
depth, current and bottom cond itions. On soft bottom s,
the vehicle will sink in, effectively increasing the water
level on the vehicle. Be sure to consid er this when deter-
mining the depth and the ability to safely cross.

Water ingestion into the axles, tran smission , tran s-
fer case, engin e or veh icle interior can occur if you
drive too fast or throu gh too deep of water. Water
can cause perm anent damage to engin e, drivelin e
or oth er veh icle components, and you r brak es will
be less effective once wet and/or muddy.
This veh icle is capable of crossin g throu gh water
at a depth of 30 inches (76 cm) at speed s no greater
than 5 mph (8 km/h). Water ingestion can occur
causin g damage to you r veh icle.
Crossin g Puddles, Pools, Flood ed Areas or Other
Stan ding Water

Puddles, pools, flood ed or other stand ing water areas
norm ally contain murky or muddy waters. These water
typ es norm ally contain hid den obstacles and make it
difficult to determ ine an accurate water depth, approach
angle, and bottom cond ition. Murky or muddy water
holes are where you want to hook up tow strap s prior to
entering. This makes for a faster, cleaner and easier
vehicle recovery. If you are able to determ ine you can
safely cross, than proceed using the low and slow
method .
Before You Cross Any Type of Water
As you approach any type of water, you need to determ ine
if you can cross it safely and responsibly. If necessary, get
out and walk throu gh the water or probe it with a stick.
You need to be sure of its depth, approach angle, current
and bottom cond ition. Be careful of murky or muddy
