PARKING BRAKE
NOTE: This vehicle is not equ ipped with a self-
adjusting parking brake system . Refer to the “Mainte-
nance Sched ule” in Section 8 of this manu al for the
prop er maintenance intervals.
To set the parking brake, pull the lever up as firm ly as
possible. When the parking brake is applied with the
ignition ON, the “Brake Warning Light” in the instru -
ment cluster will light. To release the parking brake, pull
up slightly, press the center button, then lower the lever
completely.

NOTE: The instru ment cluster “Brake Warning Light”
ind icates only that the parking brake is applied. You must
be sure the parking brake is fully applied before leaving
the vehicle.
Be sure the parking brake is firm ly set when parked , and
the shift lever is in the PARK position (autom atic trans-
mission), or REVERSE, or 1st gear (manu al transm ission).
When parking on a hill, you shou ld apply the parking
brake before placing the shift lever in PARK; otherw ise,
the load on the transm ission locking mechanism may
make it difficult to move the shifter out of PARK.
