Gear selection matches vehicle uphill direction (i.e.,
vehicle facing uphill is in forw ard gear; vehicle back-
ing uphill is in REVERSE gear).
WARN ING!
If the clutch pedal (manual tran smission only) re-
main s pressed durin g the application of the throttle,
the HSA will disen gage allow ing the veh icle to roll
down the inclin e. This could cause a collision with
anoth er veh icle or object. To avoid this, do not apply
throttle while pressin g the clutch pedal until you are
read y to release the clutch. Alw ays rem ember the
driver is resp onsib le for brak ing the veh icle.

There may be situ ation s on minor hills (i.e., less than
with a load ed veh icle, or while pullin g a trailer

where the system will not activate and sligh t rollin g

HSA Activation Criteria
The follow ing criteria must be met in ord er for HSA to
activate:
The system will only work if the intend ed direction of the
vehicle and vehicle gear match. For exam ple, if the
intend ed direction is forw ard up a hill and the vehicle is
in DRIVE (autom atic transm ission equ ipped vehicle),
and the activation criteria are met, HSA will activate.

Vehicle must be stop ped
Vehicle must be on an 8% or greater incline (3% for
manu al transm ission equ ipped vehicles)
