Itisdangerous  togetoutofthevehicleiftheshift
leverisnotfullyinP(Park)withtheparkingbrake
firmlyset.Thevehiclecanroll.
Donotleavethevehiclewhentheengineis
runningunlessyouhaveto.Ifyouhaveleftthe
enginerunning, thevehiclecanmovesuddenly.
Youorotherscouldbeinjured.   Tobesurethe
vehiclewillnotmove,evenwhenyouareonfairly
levelground,alwayssettheparkingbrakeand
movetheshiftlevertoP(Park).SeeShifting     Into
Park on page 3‑34.Ifyouarepullingatrailer,
seeTowingaTraileronpage5‑31.
Thisposition lockstherearwheels.Itisthe
bestposition tousewhenyoustarttheenginebecause
thevehiclecannotmoveeasily.
MakesuretheshiftleverisfullyinP(Park)before
starting theengine.Thevehiclehasanautomatic
transmission shiftlockcontrolsystem.Youmustfully
applyyourregularbrakesfirstandthenpresstheshift
leverbuttonbeforeyoucanshiftfromP(Park)whenthe
vehicleisrunning.  IfyoucannotshiftoutofP(Park),
easepressureontheshiftleverandpushtheshift
leverallthewayintoP(Park)asyoumaintainbrake
application. Thenpresstheshiftleverbuttonandmove
theshiftleverintoanothergear.SeeShifting    Outof
