engineusesaspecialoilfilter.Theuseofanyother
engineoilfiltercouldleadtofilterfailureandresult
insevereenginedamage.Damagecausedbyuseof
thewrongengineoilfilterwouldnotbecoveredby
yournewvehiclewarranty.
Donotaddanything totheoil.Therecommended oils
withthestarburst symbolthatmeetGMstandards are
allthatisneededforgoodperformance andengine
protection.
Whenthesystemhascalculated thatoillifehasbeen
diminished, itindicates thatanoilchangeisnecessary.
ACHANGEENGINEOILSOONmessageintheDIC
comeson.SeeDICWarningsandMessages on
page 4‑76.Changetheoilassoonaspossible within
thenext600miles(1000km).Itispossible that,
ifdrivingunderthebestconditions, theoillifesystem
mightnotindicate thatanoilchangeisnecessary for
overayear.However,theengineoilandfiltermustbe
changedatleastonceayearandatthistimethe
systemmustbereset.Yourdealer/retailer hastrained
servicepeoplewhowillperformthisworkusinggenuine
partsandresetthesystem.Itisalsoimportant tocheck
theoilregularly andkeepitattheproperlevel.
Engineoilsystemflushesarenotrecommended and
couldcauseenginedamagenotcoveredbythevehicle
warranty.

WhentoChangeEngineOil
Thisvehiclehasacomputer systemthatindicates when
tochangetheengineoilandfilter.Thisisbasedon
enginerevolutions andenginetemperature, andnoton
mileage.Basedondrivingconditions, themileageat
whichanoilchangeisindicated canvaryconsiderably.
Fortheoillifesystemtoworkproperly,thesystemmust
bereseteverytimetheoilischanged.
Ifthesystemiseverresetaccidentally,theoilmustbe
changedat3,000miles(5000km)sincethelastoil
change.Remembertoresettheoillifesystem
whenevertheoilischanged.
