ElectricPowerManagement
ThevehiclehasElectric PowerManagement (EPM)that
estimates thebattery's temperature andstateofcharge.
Itthenadjuststhevoltageforbestperformance and
extended lifeofthebattery.
Normally,theseactionsoccurinstepsorlevels,without
beingnoticeable. Inrarecasesatthehighestlevelsof
corrective action,thisactionmaybenoticeable tothe
driver.Ifso,aDriverInformation Center(DIC)message
mightbedisplayed, suchasBATTERYSAVER
ACTIVE,BATTERYVOLTAGELOW,orLOW
BATTERY.Ifthismessageisdisplayed, itis
recommended thatthedriverreducetheelectrical loads
asmuchaspossible. SeeDICWarningsandMessages
on page 4‑76.
Whenthebattery's stateofchargeislow,thevoltageis
raisedslightly toquicklybringthechargebackup.
Whenthestateofchargeishigh,thevoltageislowered
slightly topreventovercharging. Ifthevehiclehasa
voltmeter gageoravoltagedisplayontheDriver
Information Center(DIC),youmayseethevoltage
moveupordown.Thisisnormal.Ifthereisaproblem,
analertwillbedisplayed.
InadvertentPowerBatterySaver
Thebattery canbedischarged atidleiftheelectrical
loadsareveryhigh.Thisistrueforallvehicles. Thisis
becausethegenerator (alternator) maynotbespinning
fastenoughatidletoproduceallthepowerthatis
neededforveryhighelectrical loads.
Thisfeatureisdesignedtoprotectthevehicle's battery
againstdrainage fromtheinterior lamps,trunklamp,
gloveboxlamp,orthegaragedooropener.Whenthe
ignition isturnedoff,thepowertothesefeatures will
automatically turnoffafter10minutes(threeminutesifa
newcarhas24km(15miles)orless).Powerwillbe
restored foranadditional 10minutesifanydooris
opened,thetrunkisopenedorthecourtesy lampswitch
isturnedon.
Ahighelectrical loadoccurswhenseveralofthe
following areon,suchas:headlamps, highbeams,fog
lamps,rearwindowdefogger,climatecontrolfanathigh
speed,heatedseats,enginecoolingfans,trailerloads,
andloadspluggedintoaccessory poweroutlets.
