mightdeactivate toprotect thesystemfromdamage.
Youmightnoticethatthecenterposition ofthesteering
wheelischanged. UnlessthereisaSERVICE
STEERINGSYSmessage, thesystemwillreturnto
normaloperation assoonasthecondition ceases,
usuallywithinaveryshortperiodoftime.
Whenstability controlactivates, thesystem
automatically adjuststhefrontroadwheelsteering
angle,modifies thesuspension stiffness, andselectively
appliesbrakingpressure atanyoneofthevehicle's
brakestohelpmaintaindirectional controlofthe
vehicle. Adjustments tothesteering willnotbefeltin
thesteeringwheel.SeeEnhancedStabiliTrak®

Atlowspeeds,theactivesteering systemrequires less
movementofthesteering wheeltochangevehicle
direction thanthenormalpowersteeringsystem.Adjust
yourdrivingaccordingly.
Itisrecommended thatthebattery notbedisconnected
whenthesteering wheelisturnedfromthecenter
position. Ifthisoccurs,thecenterposition ofthe
steering wheelcouldbetemporarily changedasmall
amount.Youcancontinue tooperatethevehicleand,
afterashorttime,thecenterposition ofthesteering
wheelwillreturntonormal.
Whencertainsteering faultsarepresent, theactive
steering deactivates andvehiclespeedmightbelimited.
TheSERVICESTEERINGSYSandSPEEDLIMITED
TOXXXmessageswillbedisplayed. SeeDIC
WarningsandMessages on page 4‑76.Thenormal
powersteering systemisstilloperational. Youmight
noticethatthecenterposition ofthesteering wheelis
changedandthatmoresteering effortatlowspeeds
andlesssteering effortathighspeedsisrequired. You
cancontinue todrivethevehiclewithnormalpower
steering butyoushouldhaveyourdealer/retailer inspect
thesteeringsystemassoonaspossible inorderto
havetheproblemcorrected andthesteering wheel
position centered.
SteeringTips
Itisimportant totakecurvesatareasonable speed.
Tractioninacurvedependsonthecondition ofthetires
andtheroadsurface, theangleatwhichthecurveis
banked,andvehiclespeed.Whileinacurve,speedis
theonefactorthatcanbecontrolled.
Ifthereisaneedtoreducespeed,doitbeforeentering
thecurve,whilethefrontwheelsarestraight.
