Turnofftheignition onbothvehicles. Unplug
unnecessary accessories pluggedintothe
cigarette lighterortheaccessory poweroutlets.
Turnofftheradioandalllampsthatarenot
needed.Thiswillavoidsparksandhelpsaveboth
batteries. Anditcouldsavetheradio!

Checktheothervehicle. Itmusthave
a12-voltbatterywithanegative ground
system.
Notice: Iftheothervehicle's systemisnota12-volt
systemwithanegativeground,bothvehicles can
bedamaged. Onlyusevehicles with12-voltsystems
withnegativegroundstojumpstartyourvehicle.

Openthehoodsandlocatethepositive(+)and
negative(−)terminal locations ortheremote
positive(+)andremotenegative(− )terminals
oftheothervehicle. Thenlocatetheremote
positive(+)location onyourvehicle. SeeEngine
Compartment Overview on page 6‑13 formore
information onlocations theterminals.

Getthevehicles closeenoughsothejumper
cablescanreach,butbesurethevehicles arenot
touching eachother.Iftheyare,itcouldcausea
groundconnection youdonotwant.Youwouldnot
beabletostartyourvehicleandthebadgrounding
coulddamagetheelectrical systems.
Toavoidthepossibility ofthevehicles rolling, set
theparkingbrakefirmlyonbothvehicles involved
inthejumpstartprocedure. Putanautomatic
transmission inP(Park)oramanualtransmission
inNEUTRALbeforesettingtheparkingbrake.
