AntilockBrakeSystem(ABS)
ABScanchangethebrakepressuretoeachwheel,as
required, fasterthananydrivercould.Thiscanhelpthe
driversteeraroundtheobstacle whilebrakinghard.
ThisvehiclehastheAntilock BrakeSystem(ABS),an
advanced electronic brakingsystemthathelpsprevent
abrakingskid.
Asthebrakesareapplied,thecomputerkeeps
receiving updatesonwheelspeedandcontrolsbraking
pressure accordingly.
Whentheengineisstartedandthevehiclebeginsto
driveaway,ABSchecksitself.Amomentary motoror
clicking noisemightbeheardwhilethistestisgoingon,
anditmightevenbenoticedthatthebrakepedal
movesalittle.Thisisnormal.
Remember: ABSdoesnotchangethetimeneededto
getafootuptothebrakepedaloralwaysdecrease
stopping distance. Ifyougettooclosetothevehiclein
frontofyou,therewillnotbeenoughtimetoapplythe
brakesifthatvehiclesuddenlyslowsorstops.Always
leaveenoughroomupaheadtostop,evenwithABS.
Ifthereisaproblemwith
ABS,thiswarninglight

Donotpumpthebrakes.Justholdthebrakepedal
downfirmlyandletantilock work.Theantilock pumpor
motormightbeheardoperating andthebrakepedal
mightbefelttopulsate,butthisisnormal.

Suddenly,ananimaljumpsoutinfrontofyou.Youslam
onthebrakesandcontinue braking. Hereiswhat
happenswithABS:
Acomputer sensesthatthewheelsareslowingdown.
Ifoneofthewheelsisabouttostoprolling, the
computerwillseparately workthebrakesateachwheel.
